Every year, we have a baking contest. This year the category is Cakes. These rules are in this document.

2009 West Virginia Black Walnut Festival®

 Baking Contest Guidelines

The 2009 West Virginia Black Walnut Festival® Baking Contest will take place Friday, October 9th at the Spencer Municipal Building.  The contest is open to all West Virginia Residents.

This year the Baking Contest category is “Cakes”.  Entries must be brought to the Spencer Municipal Building between 8:00 – 9:30am Friday morning.  All entries will be judged on taste, texture, consistency, ease of preparation, and overall appearance.

Rules are as follows:

1. Each entry shall consist of 1 whole cake placed on a disposable container made from scratch.  No cake mixes!

2. Each entry must contain a minimum of ½ cup of West Virginia Black Walnuts either in the cake or topping the cake.

3. Two copies of the recipe must accompany each entry, with contestant’s name, address, and telephone number on the back.

4. One entry will be accepted per person.

5. Winning entries will be posted immediately following the judging.

6. The decision of the judges will be final.

7. Prizes are as follows:

1. 1st – Ribbon and $100.00
2. 2nd – Ribbon and $75.00
3. 3rd – Ribbon and $50.00

8. Once entered all entries will become the property of the West Virginia Black Walnut Festival® Committee.
